According to Strelitzia 29, p. 644, Hyaenanche globosa is a dioecious shrub or small tree, sometimes to 5 m with lanceolate, leathery leaves in whorls of 4, flowers in the leaf axils, where reddish male flowers crowd in panicles, and females flowers are clustered with 1–3.Flowering Nov.–Dec. Growing on sandstone rocks. Acording to the Red List of South African Plants, originally thought to be a Gifberg endemic, but recent collections on the Koebee Escarpment have extended this species range.
