It's saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) blooming time again and they are adding their heavenly scent to the flatwoods! Their tiny flowers attract an amazing variety of bees, wasps, beetles, ants and flies. A flower scarab (Euphoria sepulcralis) is enjoying the blossoms in this shot. Later, when the fruit are ripe, the insects return and go crazy over the nutritious oils that seep from the surface! Here is an old video of what that is like: vimeo.com/15207027 (cameo by the famous Waggles the Fly ;-)
